If you enjoy shopping there is a short trip you can make from Marseillan. You take the motorway towards Perpignan then carry straight on to a little town called Perthus, this is on the French/ Spanish Border. It matters not what you are looking for, you will find it in Perthus. Clothes, Perfume, Cameras, Jewellery , Wines and Spirits, Food, Cheese and of course Cigarettes etc. at prices you will not believe.
Try several of the Super Markets to compare prices as they vary, at the end of the high street there is a tobacconist who I have found to be the best - The shop is called CITABACS, CAV DE PUROS anything that is smokable will be found there. Whilst in Perthus, next to the tobacco shop there is a large supermarket 'La Frontera' - here you will find large displays of cooked meats, cheeses and most wines and aperitif which you may freely sample, to help you choose.
From Marseillan take the road to Adge, Vias, pick up the A9 direction Barcelona keep going to the end of the A9 then look for the sign to Perthus. You should take between one and a quarter to one and three quarters of an hour.
By the side of the Tobacco shop, the road goes up quite a steep incline and after about 100 yards, there is a restaurant called 'Rossello'.
In this restaurant they offer a buffet libre at 15 euros - for this you may help yourself to whatever you want to eat in the way of superb salads, seafood hot or cold, then a choice of meat dishes hot or cold, then a choice of sweets and deserts hot or cold - there is a jug on each table so you may help yourself to as much red, white, rose or sparkling wine - all in all, there were over 140 different things to choose from when we were there, maybe more ! As well as this fabulous food, there is also a cofee tap, and the only thing they ask of you is that you only take as much as you can eat! we have never seen anything quite as good as this, and it was of excellent quality.
